What To Look For In Study Abroad Programs

NYU was founded in 1831, and is the largest private, nonprofit institution of higher education in the U.S., with an enrollment of more than 40,000 students.

You’re in a whole new country. Typically, you’ve come to expand your horizons, and that’s exactly what you’re doing, but the irony is that you have also shrunk your immediate social world. You don’t speak the local language (yet), so befriending random people is out of the question. You don’t really talk to your classmates because, believe it or not, as curious as they might be about you foreigners, they’re too timid to speak to you. Some countries are exceptions, though. Some people are exceptions too.

Not all yurtdışı üniversite operate like reality TV shows, but they all have the potential to. Just imagine: a group of students, most if not all of whom did not know each other before the trip, are off to a country where they probably don’t speak the language, and they’re all the friends they have on that side of the world.

Interviewers love leaders. A question is sure to come up that provides you with the opportunity to discuss how you’re a leader. If you’ve never held a leadership position (how many people can be the president of the National Honor Society, anyway?), you can perhaps explain how your brand of leadership is more subtle: discuss how you contribute to group activities or how your presence positively affects the teams or clubs to which you belong.

Everyone should have the experience of living on his or her own. It is important for people to know that they can make it one their own. If you never have this opportunity, you might always wonder.

In the interview, you should be as true to your personality as possible (unless you’re a complete jerk in real life, of course). Be bubbly if you’re bubbly. Be serious if you’re serious. Of course, if your interviewers seem stiffly formal and strict (which they usually aren’t), then you may want to adjust your personality accordingly.

The most important thing you can do during your study abroad experience in London is to put down the books and get out in the city. During your study abroad experience, the best learning will come from the tactical activities and from exploration of the city. Most of all: have fun!
